Speculis Center for Treatment of Psychopathy

Speculis (Latin), inflection of speculum (Latin), 1. a looking-glass, mirror.

“We treat the untreatable”

At Speculis, we provide an Assessment & Treatment Framework (Gullhaugen, under review; Gullhaugen, 2022) that is tied to the 3D structure of the Dynamic Model of Psychopathy (DMP; Gullhaugen, Heinze & Chernyahovsky Kornev, 2021). By measuring individual differences in self- and affect consciousness (grandiosity – shame), community (invades – dismisses) and agency (defies – evades), treatment can be personalized and aimed toward the developmental psychological milestones of personal integrity (integrated emotions and self-experience), secure attachment (community) and genuine autonomy (agency).

The DMP Assessment & Treatment Framework (DMP-ATF) is currently being tested in the Norwegian Child Welfare Services and in the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in Norway, as well as in individual therapeutic work with adults (further info will follow).

Our Story

  – THE VISION – At Speculis, we treat the untreatable. That’s our vision. We treat the untreatable by applying the most exquisite thinking to the most difficult cases. That’s our strategic vision. – THE IDEA – Inspired by Karl Popper, a philosopher who proposed that the most interesting research comes from hypotheses that challenge what we believe today, a fundamental principle of the current paradigm was questioned by asking “are psychopathy and suffering mutually exclusive constructs”? – THE JOURNEY – Oscar Wilde, the esteemed poet and playwright, posited that an idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all. Echoing Voltaire, it was found that no problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking – THE BUSINESS – Smitten by anthropologist Margaret Mead’s famous words – never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, it’s the only thing that ever has – Speculis forms alliances with key influencers and decision-makers to deliver psychopathy treatment across populations and regions. To our knowledge, Speculis is the first of its kind: A psychopathy treatment center. Our methods are as innovative as they are straightforward, designed for efficacy from the first encounter.

Speculis is a platform to gain unique insights about psychopathy and its treatment.

Speculis was founded by PhD and Clinical Specialist in Psychology Aina Gullhaugen in 2022, after having developed the Dynamic Model of Psychopathy (Gullhaugen et al., 2021) and the DMP Assessment & Treatment Framework (Gullhaugen, under review; Gullhaugen, 2022).

Speculis is currently under development, as is this website. Existing materials are research versions (DMP Portfolio and Self-Help Kit).

Speculis is based in Norway

But we are looking for partners from all over the world. Services are available online and at the customer’s location. Office premises will be opened at a later date. Norwegian-speaking? Speculis Norway.

“A system for converting the externalizing behaviors or unconscious drives of individuals with psychopathy into internalized or self-conscious emotions and needs (a mirroring-interpretative technique, hence the company name Speculis), makes treatment of psychopathy a tangible process”.

Aina Gullhaugen, PhD

Founder of Speculis
